On 12 March 2019, PFLNG Satu marked another major milestone in the LNG industry as she embarked on her voyage to her new home. After 3 successful years at the Kanowit gas field in Sarawak, with 19 LNG loading operations completed, PFLNG Satu has been relocated to the Kebabangan Cluster field in Sabah.
In one of the world’s largest and most spectacular dismantling and towing projects, decommissioning and unmooring works for this 143,000MT deadweight facility started 2 weeks beforehand and FVSB was actively involved in the sea fastening and towing preparations.
FVSB has been involved in the PFLNG Satu project since fabrication works in 2015 and was involved during the first towing from DSME yard, Korea to Sarawak. FVSB is privileged to be part of history again, as the Marine Operations & Maintenance team for this relocation project. Never before has the task of relocating a Floating LNG vessel been visualised and undertaken.
During the early hours of 18 March 2019, PFLNG Satu safely reached her new home. This monumental task was undertaken by a project team comprising of 6 vessels, more than 500 personnel and a journey of 250 nautical miles crossing international borders to her new location. The relocation of PFLNG Satu marks another worlds’ first and major achievement for PETRONAS and FVSB.
PFLNG Satu is expected to perform her first LNG loading operations at Kebabangan Cluster field, Sabah in May 2019 and FVSB looks forward to continue playing our role in the safe and successful operations of PFLNG Satu.
